October Athlete of the Month: Mickey Wilson!

By Meghan Gehle | October 3, 2016
You could be a regular CrossFitter at any time of day — 6 a.m., 6:30 p.m., or anywhere in between — and chances are you would know our October “Athlete of the Month” well. That’s because it doesn’t matter if she’s coming home from a late meeting at work or she has a flight to catch in the afternoon; Mickey Wilson gets her workout in. That kind of dedication inspires us this month, and Mickey still continues to raise the bar in so many ways. Not only has she made great strides in improving her mobility and technique across all movements, she continues to get strong and achieve impressive CrossFit benchmark skills like handstands and double unders. Keep rocking it, Mickey! You are truly inspirational!
CS: What are your favorite CrossFit movements? Least favorite?
Mickey: “Favorite” might be a strong word.  I’ve seen my form and strength improve with cleans and push presses so they are on the top of the list.  As for least favorite, overhead squats.  The only time I can get into a full overhead squat is with a PVC – enough said.  A close runner-up is burpees.  Because, well, they are burpees.
CS: What are your most satisfying accomplishments in the gym so far?
Mickey: Seeing improvements – big and small.  Being able to squat a little deeper, lift a little more or run a little faster, makes the progress real.  When I finally got a double-under and a handstand, it was awesome.  It makes other movements — like the overhead squat or toes-to-bar — seem possible.
CS: What keeps you coming through the doors at CrossFit Sausalito every day?
Mickey: The people. CFS has great coaches and athletes. Everyone is nice. No matter where we live or what we do, when we walk into the gym, we all share this common interest.  For 60 minutes, we motivate and support each other. When the WOD is done, there is a mutual respect that remains and makes CFS a strong community.  It is the one hour in my day where I forget everything else and enjoy being in the moment.
