November Athlete of the Month: Leon Dylan Man-Wilde!

By Meghan Gehle | November 1, 2016

Through rain, through shine, our November “Athlete of the Month” bikes at the crack of dawn across town to CrossFit, puts his head down to work, and repeatedly crushes workout after workout. Full of energy and determination on a daily basis, Leon Dylan Man-Wilde is one strong powerhouse wrapped up in a fun, witty, and high-spirited package! Not only has he achieved many impressive personal records and made big leaps in his overall fitness, but he is always there with a smile (and that signature British charm) to help cheer a fellow 6 a.m-er on through a difficult workout. Though he is leaving Sausalito this week to return home to the U.K., Leon will always be a beloved member of the CrossFit Sausalito family. Congratulations and keep it up overseas, Leon!

CS: Tell us a little bit about the difference CrossFit has made in your fitness since you joined. What changes have you noticed?
Leon: CrossFit has been monumental to my approach to fitness. I have been spoken to and treated like all the other members. To see that everyone has a right to fitness and coaching is very encouraging. Being part of a community where effort is valued over and at the same time as ability is liberating! I LOVE that each session is different, a new challenge. Routine is shaken up and challenging. I also love that I can see my fitness progress through heavier weights, and also through gymnastic progression such as pullups, etc. I can totally see the difference in my physique — visually and on a fitness level! Yayyyy!!!

CS: What’s your favorite part about coming to CrossFit class?
Leon: Community fitness is the best. I would find one-on-one a bit boring. CrossFit pushes me out of my comfort zone of British awkwardness, as secretly I have found competitiveness part of what keeps me going! Love the 6 a.m. banter! 6 a.m. is now my workout groove! Noticing progression and development in not just me but all the other amazing members! Will miss you all!

CS: What’s your best piece of advice for a brand new CrossFitter?
Leon: There’s no rush to lift big; get the technique RIGHT! Technique is EVERYTHING. Listen to your body. Keep at it. If you have any issues, workouts can be catered for your needs!
