March Athlete of the Month: Lauren Isaac!

By Meghan Gehle | March 3, 2017

It’s not often that you’ll get a big grin out of anyone in the throes of a brutal workout at the gym, but our March “Athlete of the Month” is an exception. Because even when the going gets tough, when the movements are challenging, and when the weight gets heavy, Lauren Isaac wears her happy demeanor and positive attitude on her sleeve. What started as a fun way to get fit for their wedding has turned into a way of life for Lauren and her husband Andy, and seeing both of their smiling faces ready to tear into a workout is a frequent sight at the gym! Lauren’s unrelenting dedication to her 6 a.m. workouts, through constant travel and a busy work schedule, has always impressed us; her commitment to working on her weaknesses at open gym and her determination to do movements the right way as she continues to achieve Rx weights, double unders, and toes-to-bar make her an easy choice for us this month! Congratulations, Lauren!

CS: Tell us a little bit about the difference CrossFit has made in your fitness since you joined. What changes have you noticed?

Lauren: For years, I’ve been going to regular gyms and doing their gym classes… the workouts were hard, but I always wondered if I was working the right muscles and, frankly, if I was hurting my body. It was rare that the instructors corrected people’s form and, let’s be honest, our bodies like to take the easy way out when we’re working out. My CrossFit experience has been the exact opposite. The instructors have helped me to recognize good form, and I can see how the movements are directly strengthening muscles that I use all the time.  And it doesn’t hurt that many people admired my arms at my wedding!

CS: What’s your favorite part about coming to CrossFit class?

Lauren: I love that I never know what the workout will be (or at least not until the night before when I check the Sugar WOD app), and I never know who will be there. I also love that I drag myself out of bed to be at the 6AM classes, and I have never once regretted that decision!

CS: What’s your best piece of advice for a brand new CrossFitter?

Lauren: Being sore is your friend…that means that you’re making a difference.

Talk to the person next to you…. the CrossFit Sausalito community is extremely warm and welcoming (even the crazy buff people!)
