June Athlete of the Month: Sharon Squire!
By Meghan Gehle | June 2, 2016
Behind her sweet, petite exterior, our June “Athlete of the Month” is a powerhouse. Sharon Squire, in her two years doing CrossFit with us, has quietly amassed a long list of really impressive accomplishments in the gym: strings of unassisted strict pullups, a 35″ box jump, and an unbelievable 8-minute plank. Can we say Superwoman?! And if that’s not enough, Sharon is a regular speed demon on the trails, with endless long-distance races, including several half-marathons, under her belt and counting. She never ceases to impress us — we are so proud of her!
What’s your favorite thing about CrossFit?
Definitely the camaraderie. During a workout when I feel my arms burn or that I have no air left in my lungs, someone will call my name, or shout “you’ve got this, ” and it gives me the motivation to up the pace or keep going strong.
What are your most satisfying accomplishments in the gym so far?
Improved stamina. Before starting CrossFit about two years ago, I started running and I thought completing a 30-minute run without stopping was my limit. Now I’m running half-marathons!
What is your biggest goal going forward in 2017?
Improved bar work. Mastering kipping pull-ups and linking toes-to-bar is my goal.
