February Athlete of the Month: Brandie Coin!

By Chris Monroe | February 4, 2016
Come by the noon class on any given day, and you’d be hard pressed not to notice the tall, beautiful blonde getting an extra row in on the erg or practicing her double unders after class. Her name and scores have been on the whiteboard for over a year now, but you might’ve noticed that recently, her name almost always has a little “Rx” next to it. Her dedication to improving and her unshakable consistency at the box has paid off in spades as she continues to PR lift after lift and benchmark after benchmark, all the while bringing positive energy and support to everyone around her like the emerging leader she is. Our first “Athlete of the Month” for the month of February is Brandie Coin.
What do you attribute your success at the gym to?
Being a competitive person, everyone in this gym pushes me and motivates me to be better.  But even more than that, the coaches are what I attribute my success to.  Whether its one of them on the ground with me when I can’t do another push-up, sneaking extra weight on my bar when they think I’m sandbagging, discussing nutrition, humoring me when I want a skill session on every.damn.movement, or letting me stay late to work on DUs, these coaches push me when I may not be willing to push myself.

What are your favorite CrossFit movements? Least favorite?
Some of my favorite movements are actually snatches and cleans.  I’m learning to love things like pull-ups and toes to bar but they’re still incredibly challenging.  And as for my least favorite, I think everyone in the gym knows of my current nemesis the double under. And I think I speak for a lot of folks when I say, I hate burpees.

What keeps you coming through the doors at CrossFit Sausalito every day?
If I’m being honest, the desire to lose weight is what gets me in the door.  But what keeps me coming back every day and staying long after the workout is over is the people.  Coming from a larger gym, the beauty of a smaller gym is I actually get to know the people I’m working out with.  You get to know their kids and jobs and travel plans.  And they quickly become people you want to hang out with outside of the gym.  From the coaches to the newbies to the vets, I’m constantly surrounded by people that are encouraging, friendly and motivating.  CS is more than just a gym.  It’s a family.  A crazy, sweaty, noisy and constantly sore family that I’m so glad I stumbled upon.
