Sean Murphy
Owner, Head Coach
sean@crossfitsausalito.com
From an early age, Sean wanted to be as active as possible. He competed in anything he could get his hands on and rarely ever stopped moving. He loved competition and played a number of sports growing up on the East Coast and throughout high school, but chose to focus on football and lacrosse once in college. Playing these sports at the collegiate level exposed him to a number of different fitness programs where he was able to separate the good training from the bad. He was also able to learn how key fitness is to, not only being an athlete, but to your everyday life. Being fit is a state of mind that is incomparable to anything else. Fitness allows you to live your best.
At the end of his football and lacrosse career, Sean herniated a disc in his back, which for the first time in his life, kept him from the active life he loved. After going through some physical therapy, which still left him in constant pain, he realized that he was not reaching his goals of an active, pain-free lifestyle. In 2007, he was introduced to CrossFit and that event changed his life in countless ways. He began to achieve things he never thought was possible anymore, squatting his bodyweight and rolling out of bed without any pain, to name a few. He knew that this training could positively impact everybody, so he decided to leave the corporate world and provide this elite level of fitness to whoever was willing to work hard.
Sean believes that anybody and everybody can participate and benefit from the training at CrossFit Sausalito. He is passionate about helping people achieve a level of elite fitness and empowering them to change their lives.
Collin Hilden
Associate/Coach
collin@crossfitsausalito.com
From an early age Collin has been no stranger to physical activity. Although he spent the majority of his childhood playing baseball or performing as a gymnast in the circus, Collin also spent time practicing Jeet-Kune-Do (Style of Martial Art), going scuba diving, and partaking in backpacking trips. During college, Collin fed his interest for physical fitness by enrolling in classes which taught him to maximize his speed, agility, and coordination, while maintaining an injury free body at the same time. With this new understanding of physical training, Collin was excited to explore the next level of proper exercise mechanics.
When college came to an end, Collin moved back home with his newfound appreciation for personal fitness and searched for a physical outlet to fill his exercise needs. Collin’s curiosity brought him to CrossFit Sausalito where he finally found a similar exercise structure to the one he had experienced in his courses at college. After being humbled by his first workout, Collin realized he had found the community that would further his education about physical efficiency while providing the most demanding workout he had experienced. As Collin settled in and became a part of the community, his interest in expanding his knowledge of physical preparedness triggered the thought of becoming a coach; he became excited about the idea of being able to share his knowledge and passion for Crossfit with others.
Now as a CrossFit coach, Collin enjoys the future possibilities of helping athletes constantly improve proper fundamentals, maintain consistency, and find relative intensity to maximize the athletes’ personal goals. He also looks forward to participating in future fitness seminars to keep up with the ever-changing world of human fitness and to incorporate his knowledge into the strong community at Crossfit Sausalito.
Dawn Miedler
Coach
dawn@crossfitsausalito.com
Dawn’s sport and fitness background is not out of the ordinary — she participated in various sports throughout school and over the last decade enjoyed running and belonged to various traditional gyms. The last few years, Dawn knew that running several miles a day and the occasional abs or weight training class was not optimizing her fitness level and at the same time wasn’t sure what else she could be doing to really get fit. It was getting to the point where getting up and out for a daily run or workout was becoming a chore and bringing little reward or result.
Dawn had been vaguely familiar with CrossFit and will admit that she was intimidated by it at first and wasn’t sure if it was something she could sustain as part of her regular workout regimen. Then in the last year, Dawn attended her first official CrossFit class and was immediately hooked. She’s the first to tell you it’s hard not to get hooked when the results come so quickly; Dawn immediately saw a decrease in body fat, increase in strength and improvement in her cardio endurance and did not have to dedicate hours on end to get there. And the workouts were fun. She quickly came to love the uniqueness of each workout that has made getting fit fun again. Dawn also welcomes not only the physical challenge of the workouts, but the mental challenge as well — wondering how she will make it through some of the workouts and then doing so can be just as rewarding. Along these lines, she gets huge satisfaction from watching her fellow athletes push through a strenuous workout to have an overwhelming sense of accomplishment afterward.
Dawn is passionate about continuing to learn about and maintain a level of overall fitness she never thought possible before — not only for herself, but also for those she has the pleasure to train alongside.
Shannon Kerr
Coach
shannon@crossfitsausalito.com
Shannon has seen changes from the moment she embraced CrossFit including increased strength, decreased body fat, greater cardiovascular capacity, improved posture, and a greater sense of well being. Although Shannon has used triathlons and marathons as training motivation in the past, prior to CrossFit, Shannon, like many others was stuck in workout limbo with intermittent elliptical and cardio work and the feeling that she was wandering aimlessly from one nautilus machine to another without a program. She knew her fitness level was not where it could be and, if she wasn’t training for an event, she found it hard to motivate to workout. Fitness has always been an important part of Shannon’s life although it’s become more of a priority now that she’s a Mom. Shannon believes that being a strong and healthy parent is one of the best things you can do for your kids and she looks forward to working with other parents who see the benefits of setting a strong example for their children.
Shannon is currently studying to become a certified holistic health counselor and will be working with clients to help them make dietary and lifestyle changes that produce real and lasting results. Shannon is a proponent of a holistic approach to health and feels that nutrition and wellness are the foundation for happier and healthier lives. A holistic approach to total health includes a disciplined fitness program, and Crossfit provides the ultimate transformative and supportive workout approach.
Working out can be challenging but a strong and supportive community makes it possible to do amazing things. Shannon is especially inspired by the wonderful Crossfit Sausalito community and looks forward to working with everyone to help them achieve their goals both inside and outside of the gym.
Becca Wadman
Coach
becca@crossfitsausalito.com
Becca has been exercising all her life. In her early years, she threw herself into any and all activities from soccer, lacrosse, and tennis, to golf, swimming and skiing, Becca was always on the move! Her focus shifted primarily to soccer as she traveled the country competing with the state of Vermont Olympic Development Program, and went on to play Soccer and Lacrosse at a collegiate level. It was during this time, as she enjoyed her daily trainings on and off the field, that her appreciation for fitness grew into her passion.
After college her fitness routine became stale and uninvolved. She joined different gyms and tried different classes, but mostly would go for a run followed by an “ab workout”. Becca was introduced to CrossFit in 2009 and signed up thinking it would be a fun change from her everyday fitness routine. What she found was a lifestyle change! Immediately she saw the changes, such as an increase in her endurance and strength and a decrease in body fat. Outside of the gym, she immediately noticed higher energy levels and more awareness to her nutrition and all around well being.
Becca loves the competitive spirit and strong community that CrossFit embodies. She loves pushing each athlete to go a little faster, stronger, harder than they thought they could go. Her goal is to share her passion for health and wellness to all, and to ultimately help people have a better life
