April Athlete of the Month: Peter Schumacher!

By Meghan Gehle | April 1, 2016

Whether it’s sprinting a mile for time, 20 minutes of pullups, pushups and squats, or pressing heavy things overhead, our April “Athlete of the Month” is a force in the gym. What’s even more impressive? He is 54 years young and making it look migh-ty good. Yep, our pick this month is the one and only Peter Schumacher! Two years into CrossFit with us, Peter just wrapped up a serious run in the worldwide 2016 CrossFit Open, finishing 22nd in his age division in the very competitive NorCal Region. But long before, we watched and were impressed by Peter as he turned his natural athleticism into gains far beyond his endurance background, all from putting the work in daily on both his strengths and weaknesses. His determination, work ethic, and enthusiasm will take Peter far in the CrossFit world, and we can’t wait to see what he does next!

What do you attribute your success at the gym to?

Being there a lot. As I spend more time in the box and get more workouts in, I can truly feel it helps getting stronger, in better shape, and learning the movements better. The coaches are constantly working on proper technique as well.

What are your favorite CrossFit movements? Least favorite?

Mostly upper body stuff: pushups, pullups (really wanna get the muscleup). I like rowing too. But more and more thrusters and leg stuff is getting easier too as it is my legs who have done most of the improvements the last year.

Least: burpees, running with med balls (messes up my spine)

What keeps you coming through the doors at CrossFit Sausalito every day?

A great workout makes me feel really good. I forget about my busy life for an hour while I am there. The people and coaches are awesome as you have created a special sense of community and camaraderie. You get people in from different walks of life one normally wouldn’t meet.
