November Athlete of the Month: Beale Harrison

Beale Harrison, our November “Athlete of the Month”, is a force to be reckoned with. When Beale and his wife, Melissa, joined CrossFit Sausalito in July I knew they were ready to kick-start their fitness routine, and have they ever! Beale has quietly been RXing more WOD’s, and slowly climbing the SugarWod Whiteboard. His impressive times and scores have been turning heads as he has remained at the top of the leader board this month. Beale is always the first to cheer on his fellow athlete, and always has a smile on face. Beale’s hard work and consistency, paired with his positive attitude make him an easy choice for our November Athlete of the Month! Congratulations, Beale!
Tell us a little bit about the difference CrossFit has made in your fitness since you joined CrossFit Sausalito. What are your most satisfying accomplishments in the gym so far?
CrossFit has greatly improved my fitness and energy levels. Before Melissa and I signed up I think our goals were probably similar to other people’s; we wanted to lose weight, get stronger, and feel better. Running has been our only somewhat consistent excercise over the years, so CrossFit has been a great addition and we can definitely see the results. As far as accomplishments, there’s nothing really specific. I just enjoy the challenge to get better every time I go, and of course, the feeling of satisfaction and sweet relief when it’s over.
What’s your favorite part about coming to CrossFit class?
There are several things I really like about Crossfit. It’s unlike anything else out there because it truly covers all areas of fitness, pushes you out of your comfort zone, and makes you do things you would never dream to try on your own. It’s different everyday and also disturbingly addictive; proven simply by the fact that after you have your ass kicked, you voluntarily come back to have it kicked again in a new way. It’s a great fit for me personally because I lack the motivation and discipline for a traditional gym. The structure and coaching are great and I like the social, community aspect to it. It’s also really nice to be able to share the suffering with my wife and other encouraging, friendly people.
What’s your best piece of advice for a brand new CrossFitter?
My advice is pretty predictable I guess. Listen to the coaches and work on trying to attain the correct form and needed flexibility before moving up to the heavier weights and more challenging body weight exercises. Either way you’re going to get a great workout, so take it slow and don’t hurt yourself. Can’t say I totally followed this advice, but still good advice.
