August Athlete of the Month: Heather Stewart!
By Meghan Gehle | August 2, 2016
Very often, when a coach needs someone to come up to the front of the room and demo a movement for the class, our August “Athlete of the Month” is our go-to girl. This is because Heather Stewart, a career yoga instructor and massage therapist, is a model for perfect movement, something she cares very much about. Heather has been a prime example of building up her fitness via impeccable technique, posting several amazing personal records on the major lifts this month, including a hugely impressive — and beautifully performed — 200-pound deadlift! Always consistent on attending class, regularly pushing her limits, and performing WODs as prescribed on an increasingly frequent basis, Heather has quietly and methodically worked her way to dominate the top of the leaderboards. We are so impressed and inspired by her! Congratulations, Heather!
Heather: First and foremost, I love the community–from the coaches to the athletes. I’ve never met such a supportive group of people. I feel like we are all each other’s number one fans and it feels so good to be a part of.
I also love that no matter what my feelings may be for the WOD on the whiteboard, I get my butt kicked every time and always feel better for coming to class.
Heather: Well, that 200 lb. deadlift felt pretty damn good!Aside from any kind of PR, some days I’m just satisfied to make it to class. Whether it’s battling through full-body muscle soreness or just a long day of work, I always have a great sense of accomplishment after completing a WOD, especially on the days where I push myself in ways I didn’t know I could: a big cardio workout or Rx’ing the weight.
CS: What do you attribute your success at the gym to?
Heather: I’m really grateful for the great coaching. Coming from a background of teaching yoga, I’m a stickler for good alignment and proper form. I love that the coaches at C/S are always there with suggestions and corrections –they don’t miss a beat. That gives me the confidence to push myself, and I keep coming back for more.
